Christie, Kyle, and Alexander were walking in Parque Profundo. It was 8 o'clock at night, but many Mystery Rock residents, just like Gizel, were nocturnal. So the town was never completely asleep. The sun was starting to hide, but that wasn't important, nighttime was cooler and completely quiet.
